Pie Crust Recipes

Here are a few good pie crust recipes.

Rolled Oil Pastry

Ingredients for One Crust Pie

  • 1 cup, plus 2 tbsp. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp. cold water
Ingredients for Two Crust Pie
  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp. cold water
Method: Add oil to flour and salt. Mix with fork. Sprinkle with water and mix with fork. Roll between wax paper.












In Pan Pie Crust

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2/3 cup salad oil
  • 3 tbsp. milk
Mix oil and milk and add to dry ingredients. Save about 1/3 of crust to crumble over the top of the pie. Press the remainder of crust into pie pan for bottom crust.












No Fail Pie Crust
(This recipe makes 2 9-inch and 1 single crust.)

Ingredients

  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 tbsp. vinegar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup cold water
Mix flour, sugar and salt. Then add shortening. Mix vinegar, egg and water and add to the above mixture. You can re-mix this crust several times and not worry about the crust turning out well.








Manna’s Pie Crust

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup shortening (cold)
  • 6 tbsp. ice water
Mix the flour and salt. Set mixture in freezer for 30 minutes. Cut cold shortening into cold flour and salt mixture. Pour ice water over mixture a tablespoon at a time using only enough to make a workable paste. (Too little will result in crumbly crust.) This pastry is rich and must be handled precisely. Put pastry in plastic wrap or a plastic bag and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled. Roll out.

Makes two 9-inch pastry shells. Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes or until lightly brown.












Vinegar and Egg Pastry Crust

Ingredients

  • 4 cups unsifted flour
  • 1 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp. vinegar
  • 1/2 cup cold water
Blend flour, sugar and salt. Blend egg, vinegar and water. Sprinkle egg mixture over the flour mixture, a tablespoon at a time. When all is moistened, shape into a ball. Chill several hours or overnight. Bake at 450 degrees for about 10 minutes.

Makes 5 single crusts or 2 doubles and 1 single.
