Plantation Pecan Pear Cake

Here is our plantation pecan pear cake. We hope you like it.

Plantation Cake

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups mashed canned pears
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
Cream shortening thoroughly. Add sugars and blend well. Add eggs and blend until smooth and creamy. Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, mixing well after each addition. Add pears and pecans. Blend in thoroughly. Bake in a tube pan for 1 hour and 10 minutes or in layer pans for 35 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees.






Beige Satin Icing
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 2/3 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 4 egg whites, stiffy beaten
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Boil sugar, water and cream of tartar until mixture spins a long thread. Add to egg whites. Beat until mixture stands in peaks. Add vanilla. Frost cake and decorate with pecans.
