Leftover Candy - How to Store It and Ideas to Use It
STORING YOUR CANDY- Candy, including chocolate candy, can be frozen. Make sure it is wrapped well and stored in an airtight container. This is important to keep ice from building up inside the container.
If you are freezing chocolate candy, it will sometimes lose its fresh look and develop what is called a sugar or fat “bloom”. This is because the sugar separates and rises to the surface of the candy. So it develops a white or gray swirls or spots. The taste of the chocolate should not affected even though it can look unpleasing to the eye. - You can also store your candy in bottles. Make sure the bottles are air tight. This is so the candy will stay fresh for a long time. Some think this may be better than freezing. This is especially true for chocolate candy, if you do not want to develop the “bloom”. Make sure, however, the bottle is sealed very tight. You want to keep air from getting into the bottle and spoiling your candy.
HOW TO USE LEFTOVER CANDYChocolate Candy: - The next time you are ready to make brownies, muffins, cupcakes or a cake, just take some of that chocolate candy, let it thaw out if you froze it and then chop it into small pieces.
You can then stir those small pieces into your brownie or cake mix before baking or push a piece into the center of each muffin or cupcake to create something a little different? I now keep a stash of miniature candy bars in my freezer for just that reason. - Do you love Smores? I do. Just take some chocolate candy and melt it. Along with a marshmallow, place it between two graham crackers. Delicious!
- Melt some of your miniature chocolate bars and pour over ice cream.
