If you do not like German chocolate cake because the frosting has coconut and pecans in it, you must try this one. It has a German chocolate glaze!

The Cake

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 tsp. butter favor
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
Partially melt chocolate over hot water. Remove from hot water and stir rapidly until entirely melted. Cool. Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs, flavorings and buttermilk. Sift together flour, soda and salt; add to shortening and mix well.

Stir in chocolate until blended. Pour batter into well-greased and floured 9-inch tube pan. Bake in a 300 degree oven about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Remove from pan. Wrap in foil until cool. If desired, spread with the following glaze.
