This Old Fashioned Egg Custard Pie is a winner!
It is an easy pie to make and only takes approximately 35 to 40 minutes, including baking time, to prepare.
The custard is so light, fluffy and not overly sweet.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups sweet milk
- 1/4 stick butter
- 9-inch deep dish pie shell
- 3 large eggs
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- Dash of salt
- Cinnamon sugar
In a saucepan on top of your stove, place 2 cups milk and the 1/4 stick butter. You will need to stir it occasionally so the milk doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan.
As the butter melts, turn you oven to 425 degrees F. Put the prepared pie shell in the oven while it is warming just to get it hot. Keep you eye on the pie shell because you really don’t want it to brown, just get warm. Once it is warm, take it out of the oven.
While the butter and milk are heating up on the stove, whisk the eggs together in a bowl. Then add the sugar, vanilla and salt and beat well.
After the butter has completely melted, pour the milk and butter mixture slowly into the eggs, sugar, vanilla and salt and blend completely.
Pour your egg custard mixture into the warm pie shell and bake it for 10 minutes.
Reduce the heat to 325 degrees F and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes of until the pie s set.
Remove from the oven and sprinkle the top with the cinnamon sugar while hot. Cool and enjoy!
TIP: The butter may rise to the top of the pie. If it does, just carefully lay a paper towel over the top of the filling so it can soak up the butter.
