Dessert Salads That
Are Attention Grabbers

Do you like dessert salads? The one I remember most growing up is the "pistachio salad". Whenever my family got together whether it was Christmas, Easter or the 4th of July, my mother would make her pistachio salad. As a kid, I loved the marshmallows and cool whip.

I consider it a dessert salad. Mainly because it is sweet and we would always have it on the dessert table along with the pies and cakes. The recipe for it is below. Also, try the Strawberry Salad Dessert. Although, I have not made it, it sounds very interesting. I guess because it is made with pretzels. The others are below.

Bon Appetit!

Strawberry Salad Dessert

  • 2 cups coarsely crushed pretzels
  • 3/4 cup melted margarine
  • 2 tbsp. sugar
  • 1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese
  • 1 (8 oz.) carton whipped topping (like cool whip)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 large box strawberry jello
  • 2 cups boiling water
  • 2 (10 oz.) packages frozen strawberries
Mix crushed pretzels, margarine and sugar. Press in a 9x13 inch pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 8 minutes. Cool. Combine cream cheese, topping and sugar. Spread over cooled crust. Add jello to boiling water; cool slightly. Add frozen berries and pour over cheese mixture and chill.

Pistachio Salad Dessert
  • 1 large box Cool Whip
  • 1 box pistachio instant pudding
  • 1 cup small marshmallows
  • 1 can crushed pineapple (with juice)
Mix all together and chill.

Dump Salad Dessert
  • 1 small box of jello
  • 1 can well-drained crushed pineapple
  • 1 large carton whipped topping
  • 1 can Eagle Brand milk
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 1 cup nuts
Mix well and chill for 2 hours.

7-Up Salad Dessert
  • 1 small box of lemon or lime jello
  • 1 8-oz. package cream cheese, broken in pieces
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • 1 cup 7-Up (may substitute with Sprite)
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup crushed pineapple
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries (optional)
  • a few drops of green food coloring
Dissolve gelatin in boiling water. Add cream cheese. Beat with electric mixer at low speed until smooth. Stir in pineapple, sugar, vanilla, food coloring (if desired) and nuts. Add 7-Up or Sprite. Chill until set; stir when partially set to keep nuts from rising to top and cherries from settling to the bottom.

Coke Salad Dessert
  • 1 can crushed pineapple
  • 1 can Bing cherries
  • 16 oz. Coke
  • 1 cup pecans
  • jello
Drain juice from pineapple and cherries into a pan. Add enough water to make 2 cups liquid. Heat to boiling. Stir in jello and Coke. Set in refrigerator until slightly thickened. Stir in cherries, nuts and pineapple. Let set until firm.
