This Cream Puffs Recipe calls for just a little Kahlua. The Kahlua gives the filling that sweet coffee-flavor that gives it the WOW factor!
This recipe serves 6.
Tip: Remember to set your butter and eggs out for approximately 20 minutes before you start.
Ingredients:
- 1 pkg. (3.4 oz.) instant vanilla pudding mix
- 1 cup cold milk
- 2 tsp. Kahlua liqueur
- 1 cup cool whip
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/3 cup butter
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 3 eggs
- Powdered sugar
Start with the filling:Take out your electric mixer and use it to mix the vanilla pudding and the cold milk in a bowl for two minutes or until it has thickened. Stir the Kahlua into the pudding mixture. Finally, fold in the cool whip. This is your filling. Cover this mixture with plastic wrap and put in the refrigerator until you are ready to assemble your cream puffs.
Now for the puffs:
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F, grease a baking sheet and set aside.
Put the water and butter in a saucepan and bring it to a full boil. Stir until the butter fully melts. Add the salt to the flour and then pour into the water. Stir vigorously and continue to cook until the mixture forms into a "dough ball". Look at the picture to the right to see how it should look.
Remove the dough ball from the heat and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Then add your eggs. Add one egg at a time, which you have already beaten, into the dough mixture and stir until the mixture is smooth.
Take a spoon and scoop out six individual mounds of dough onto a baking sheet. They should be at least one to two inches apart.
Bake these mounds for 30 minutes or until they are golden brown and have puffed. Always start checking about 10 minutes before to see if they are done because all ovens are different.
Cool them slightly and then cut off the top of each shell. Next you will carefully scrape out the soft dough in the inside of each puff.
Cool them completely on a rack.
To Serve:
When you are ready to serve the cream puffs, spoon the filling into the bottoms of the shells. Replace the tops and dust each of them with powdered sugar. I always use swifter when dusting.
I hope you try this cream puffs recipe. It is worth it!
