Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars

Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars I love chocolate chip cookies. But, these chocolate chip bars are even better! They are gooey and soft in the middle and crunchy on the outside. Especially crunchy are the corner pieces. These are my favorites!

They are so simple to make.

Ingredients:

  • 2/3 cup shortening (I use Crisco)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 2 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 pkg. or 2 cups chocolate chips
  • nuts (if desired)
Here is all you do.

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a medium size jelly roll pan or a cookie sheet with approximately 1/2 inch sides.

Sift in a bowl the flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder and set aside.

Then in a second bowl, cream together the shortening, sugar and brown sugar. Beat the eggs and then add them to the sugar mixture.

Stir in the flour mixture a little at a time. Finally, stir in the vanilla and chocolate chips. Also, add the nuts at this time.

Spread the mixture onto the cookie sheet and bake for 15 to 20 minutes. When they have cooled, cut these chocolate chip cookie bars into squares.

COOKIE BAR TIPS

If you are using a glass baking pan instead of a cookie sheet, decease your oven temperature by 25 degrees F or 10 degrees C.

When adding the flour and other dry ingredients to your batter, do not over mix the dough. Your cookie bars will end up being tough.
