Heavenly Cake Mix Recipes or Semi Homemade
In researching when the first cake mix recipes came about, I found that cake mixes made it on the scene in the late 1940s.
It is interesting that the first cake mixes required you to only add water, because they included dried eggs.
Between 1947 and 1953, sales of cake mixes were going strong.
A problem occurred several years after that between 1956 and 1960. This was when sales of cake mixes flattened. The food companies at that time set out to find out why.
What they discovered was the simplicity of cake mixes that "just add water and stir" made women feel self-indulgent for using them. There wasn't enough work involved to fulfill emotional satisfaction of making a homemade cake.
Now remember this was the 1950s.
So the conclusion was to leave the homemaker something to do by adding an egg. What ultimately came about was the declining exposure to the art of baking.
These recipes blend more ingredients with the cake mix, which produce heavenly cakes.
