Banana Bread Recipes

Here is the first of the banana bread recipes.

Version 1 Made with Sour Milk

  • 1 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 4 tbsp. sour milk
  • 2 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 3 ripe med. bananas
Cream sugar and shortening well; add slightly beaten eggs and salt. Dissolve soda in sour milk; add alternately with flour. Add vanilla. Add bananas which have been rubbed through a strainer. Place in greased and floured bread tin. Bake at 275 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour.

Pineapple Banana Bread







Version 2 Made With Sour Cream and Nuts
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 3 tsp. sour cream or milk
  • 3 bananas, crushed
  • 1 cup copped nuts
Cream sugar and shortening; add eggs. Sift flour; measure and sift with salt, baking powder and soda. Add to first mixture. Add remaining ingredients. Pour into greased 5 x 10 x 3 inch loaf pan. Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes.

Version 3 Made With Nuts

  • 1/2 cup butter or Crisco
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 bananas, riced (Riced is to mash to the consistency of rice)
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • Dash of salt
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
Cream butter; add sugar gradually. Beat in eggs; add bananas. Beat well. Add flour, sifted with soda and salt; add walnuts. Bake 40 to 50 minutes in bread tin in 350 degree oven.












Version 4 Made With Brown Sugar and Lemon
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup mashed bananas
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
Cream sugar with margarine. Add eggs, one at a time, beating hard after each addition. Stir in bananas and lemon juice. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt; add and mix quickly. Stire in nuts. Pour into greased 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour at 350 degrees.

Version 5 Made With Nuts

  • 2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 unbeaten eggs
  • 1 cup mashed ripe bananas
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped
Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and soda; set aside. Add sugar gradually to shortening, creaming well. Blend in eggs, beating well after each. Stir in bananas. Blend in sifted dry ingredients; stir in nuts. Turn into 9 x 5 s 3 inch pan, well greased on bottom. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour and 1 hour and 10 minutes. Cool before slicing.












Version 6 Made with Nuts
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cup flour
  • 1 tsp. soda3 mashed bananas
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Cream well. Sift dry ingredients. Add to creamed mix. Stire in remaining ingredients. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes in a loaf pan.

Version 7 Made with PecansBanana Bread

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp. soft shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup bananas, mashed
  • 3 cups sifted flour
  • 3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 cup chopped pecans
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a loaf pan, 9 x 5 x 3 inches with shortening and flour.

Sift together the dry ingredients and set aside. Blend the sugar, shortening and egg thoroughly. Stir in the milk and bananas. Add the dry ingredients one cup at a time. Finally, blend in the pecans.

Bake for 60 to 70 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Cool thorought before slicing.












Version 8 Pineapple Banana Bread
  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • 1 1 /4 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 cup nuts, chopped
  • 4 large bananas, mashed
  • 1 (8 oz.) can crushed pineapple, drained
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
Preheat your oven to 325 degrees F. Grease and flour two 9x5x3 loaf pans and set aside.

Mix together the sugar, oil, eggs, bananas and pineapple. Stir in the vanilla. In another bowl, mix together the flour, cinnamon and nuts. Then add the flour mixture to the banana mixture and mix well.

Pour into the pans and bake for 60 minutes. This bread freezes well.
